About Equine TherapyWe incorporate horses into mental health treatment for people. As herd animals with prey instincts, horses are experts at reading nonverbal communication.
Their responses often remind clients of their goals, personal challenges, and/or relationships with themselves and others. This provides a safe environment to work through these things, where the horses only change when we do. The Eagala Model is the global standard for equine-assisted psychotherapy and personal development, which incorporates horses' unique herd instincts to help clients heal.

TreatmentEquine-assisted psychotherapy does not involve riding or horsemanship, rather it invites clients to interact with the horses in an exploratory and unobstructed manner. This model allows the client to investigate and explore their thoughts and feelings through the interaction with the horses. The therapist and equine specialist are on hand to assist with processing what comes to the client during a session.
Equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions take place on a working farm about 1 hour west of Edmonton. Directions and further instructions are sent to clients by email once their session has been booked. Sessions are 90-minutes long and can be individual or group/family.
Sessions are conducted by Erin McDougall, Registered Psychologist and April Prescott, Certified Canadian Counsellor.
